Day 1: Vast Plains and the Largest Public Ranch in Japan
Route Description: The journey begins on the expansive Tokachi Plains, leading to the Naitai Highland Farm, Japan’s largest public ranch. Here, cyclists will navigate mountain roads aiming for the Sky Terrace at Naitai Highland, experiencing a climb that feels as though ascending into the sky, set against a backdrop of pastoral beauty.
Day 2: Challenging the Highest Pass in Hokkaido
Early Morning Ride to Mikuni Pass: Start the day with an ambitious climb to Mikuni Pass, the highest pass in Hokkaido at an elevation of 1,139 meters. From the summit, enjoy a thrilling downhill ride, then continue to Lake Nukabetsu, known as the 'Sky Lake,' where the northern loop of Tokapuchi 400 begins. The day offers a refreshing ride enveloped by the dynamic nature of Daisetsuzan National Park, including iconic sights like birch-lined roads and the pristine environment surrounding Lake Nukabetsu.

Day 1 | [Start] Obihiro Station: 9:00 ↓↓↓ Cycle the Tokapuchi 400 Northern Route. Immediately after departure, you’ll be greeted with expansive views of the Tokachi River and the Hidaka Mountain Range. Endless fields stretch out before you, with straight roads that highlight the vastness of the northern lands. As you enter a rich agricultural area, you’ll find small cafes run by local producers and sweet shops operated by farms. Enjoy leisurely breaks while savoring dishes made with Tokachi milk and vegetables. As you continue, the elevation gradually increases, offering even more spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. The pastoral scene of cows leisurely grazing in the fields adds to the unique Hokkaido atmosphere. The climax of the ride comes at Naitai Highland Ranch, where the vast, sweeping highland scenery fills the horizon. Day 2 | [Start] Nukabira Onsenkyo: Around 3:00–4:00 ↓↓↓ Start in the dim light of dawn and begin a hill climb toward Mikuni Pass. As you pass through the forest, the majestic peaks of the Daisetsu Mountains will appear as the sky lightens. The landscape bathed in the changing hues of the morning sunrise offers a unique early-morning riding experience. The downhill section provides an exhilarating rush, with the wind in your face and the peaceful morning atmosphere, giving you a sense of freedom. ↓↓↓ [End] Nukabira Onsenkyo (Breakfast and short break at the hotel) Travel to the “Sky Lake,” Lake Shikaribetsu, by support car. ↓↓↓ [Start] From the mystical shore of Lake Shikaribetsu, depart again on the Tokapuchi 400 northern route: 11:00 ↓↓↓ Enjoy riding through long birch-lined roads and dynamic mountainous areas. Stop at scenic rest spots, such as the Otofuke Roadside Station and Sweetopia Garden, where you can enjoy local sweets and delicacies. Recharge with local treats as you head toward Obihiro Station.
